December 2007 - What horses benefit from sports massage therapy
Carrie Nettles is a certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist (ESMT). She completed the Equissage Inc. certification program in early spring of 2007, and has been working on horses in the Mid-Michigan area. Carrie and her husband ride and breed sport horses in Leslie, Michigan at their farm, Nettles Ranch. Carrie has been involved with horses for 20 years, starting out as a United Stated Pony Club member in the Chicago area as a youth. Carrie has competed in Eventing, and currently rides Dressage.

Carrie has equine clients of all shapes and sizes. She uses deep muscle massage to help release tension and muscle spasms, also aiding in increasing circulation, and enhancing muscle tone and range of motion. Carrie has done sports massage on foals as young as two weeks old, and horses as old as 30 years. There are many reasons a horse may benefit from a sports massage, and those will be addressed in future writings.

Carrie is looking forward to working with the ILPH-MI board, and to helping the horses who come into their care.
