March 2007 - How to Choose the Right Farrier
JD Pepper ( known as Pepper ) began working with horses early in his youth, training and providing hoof care for his own horses under the guidance of local Farriers. As he grew into adulthood, a career as a Professional Farrier seemed imminent. He attended and graduated from the Michigan School of Horseshoeing in 1987. Throughout the past 20 years he has furthered his education and completed testing certifying him as a BWFA Journeyman II Level Farrier.
Pepper has instructed at the Michigan School of Horseshoeing and has also completed courses in Equine Dentistry.
Working with area equine professionals and attending continuing education seminars has kept him on the cutting edge of the Farrier Science Industry.
His ability to analyze and correct hoof and balance issues has been utilized by
the Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses (CANTER)
and the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH).
